1. 中文翻譯的外國城市名稱,如果是來自於與中國比較有歷史淵源的地區,特別是鄰近國家或地區,如:日本.韓國.菲律賓.馬來西亞.緬甸,泰國,柬埔寨,印尼.西藏等,其實就會按照以前由來已久的名稱,而不是直接翻譯自它們的英文名字:
舉例:(1). 東京-Tokyo
        (2). 緬甸- Burma
        (3). 柬埔寨- Cambodia
        (4). 西藏- Tibet
        (5). 南韓- South Korea,也被翻譯成韓國.
        (6). 北韓- North Korea,也被翻譯成朝鮮.
以上這些地區,與中國人來往,互動的歷史比較悠久,所以中文名稱,來自於更久之前的中國人,與英文名稱,沒有關連!
2. 中文翻譯成英文,有漢語拼音,和羅馬拼音,兩大系統,拼字上會有一些出入!例如:姓氏"謝",漢語拼音-XIE,羅馬拼音-HSIEH,差別相當大!
3. 有些城市的中文名字,來自歷史,並非按照英文發音,例如:
San Francisco,這個位於美國加州的大城,華裔人口為數眾多,最早開發此地的是西班牙人,因此仍維持西班牙文的拼字與發音,中文名字卻與發音無關,是因為"淘金熱"的歷史,然而這個西班牙文的意思是,一位天主教聖人,義大利聖人-聖方濟,現任教宗,義大利裔阿根廷籍,就是以聖方濟的精神,為自己命名!
